Le Fort Freinet <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fort-Freinet is a medieval castrum, a fortified village occupying around 1,200 m\u00b2 on the hill overlooking La Garde-Freinet. It comprises three distinct sectors: the castle at the summit, the village on the hillside and an isolated outpost. The village, made up of some forty stone huts, is arranged in a semicircle on several levels around the rocky relief. Destroyed in 1589 during the Wars of Religion, the site was deliberately dismantled to prevent its capture by the Huguenots. Remarkable for the ingenious use of rock by its builders, Fort Freinet is now a listed natural site. A lovely hike leads to Fort Freinet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
